Following are some tips to fit gym time into your day at work:
Step 1: Plan It
Start by evaluating yourself. Are you a morning person or a night person? What time of the day have you been most successful working out in the past? Pick a time that you can commit to exercising 5 times a week for 3 months. You will need to build a habit. Once you have developed a habit, it is easier to continue down the same path. Visualize yourself succeeding. That is step 1 to running after your fitness goals.
Step 2: Stick to It
Stick to it. Simply put one foot in front of the other. Call someone and ask them to be your accountability partner. Maybe they can join you at the gym occasionally or they can call and check in on you to see if you have been consistent. You will be surprised what will happen if you try- act- and DO!
Step 3: Bait Yourself
What motivates you? For some, it is the idea that poor health could risk them not being around in the future for their children or grandchildren. For others, it is the goal of a better appearance. Regardless of the goal, use it to motivate and bait yourself forward. Reward yourself when you achieve 1 week, then 1 month, and 2 months. It will take several consistent steps to get you where you want to go and to build a routine that you can stick to. Life is a journey. Never give up. Always move forward towards the direction that you want to go.
Step 4: Priorities Check
We usually miss our workouts because we are working. The absolute truth is that your employer wants you to be healthy. Your employer NEEDS you to be healthy. You will be able to work well into the later years of your life (if you so choose) and avoid many aches and pains if you can remain (or get) healthy. Someone once asked me how many hours a day I worked. Then they asked me how much time I spent a day working out. They continued to quiz me. How many years will you have your job? How many years will you have your body? That created a priorities check for me. I hope and plan to have my body MANY more years than I have my job. I wish the same for you.
Success happens one step at a time. Start towards your fitness goals today if you haven’t already. If you are marching towards it, continue to march ahead one trip to the gym at a time. Go hit the gym.
