We spend a significant number of hours toiling away at our offices. Often we run into difficult personalities. Some come in the form of passive aggressive personalities, where others seem to push and prod in an attempt to control the outcomes (or directly control you). It is frustrating. How do you deal with it?
One way that can be successful and allow you to come out of this smelling like a rose is to concentrate on business results (i.e. the tasks at hand). Focus your attention on what needs to be done and try to avoid those troublemakers as often as is feasible. Don’t engage in the drama. You will build a better brand and stand out if you can steer clear of the bullies and ensure that your responses don’t reflect bitterness or anger.
Protect your image and your brand. Others’ actions, if you engage, can tarnish your brand and your reputation. Sometimes a direct confrontation is necessary to get things going in the right direction. But the leading goal is to try to rise above the small squabbles and focus your attention on getting the BEST job done with the HIGHEST level of results. Your brand and image are valuable assets that need to be protected in all circumstances.
